May 22 (SeeNews) - Dunapack Packaging, part of Austria's Prinzhorn Group, said on Wednesday it is has completed the first phase of expansion and upgrades at its Sfantu Gheorghe corrugated cardboard packaging plant in Romania.
The modernisation works included an increase of the storage capacity of existing warehouses by over 4,000 sq m, enabling Dunapack to improve its services, the company said in a press release.
"The plant in Sfantu Gheorghe has always functioned as a pivot at national level and the processes of enlargement and modernisation will consolidate and secure this position over a long period of time," Dunapack Packaging managing director Alexander Enzenberg said.
The factory was also fitted with new equipment that will enable it to grow complexity and quality of its packaging solutions. The picking and packing system for finished products has been fully automated to ensure a modern, safe and healthy working environment for Dunapack's staff.
The second stage of the plant's modernisation will involve replacing the corrugated cardboard machine with a new more efficient one. Installation works will be completed in the first quarter of 2020.
Together with the new Dunapack plant in Bolintin, which will begin activity in the summer of 2019, the company will reach a local production capacity of more than 300 million square meters of corrugated cardboard per year.
In October, Dunapack started works on its second factory in Romania - an investment estimated at 45 million euro ($50.2 million). The new corrugated packaging factory in Bolintin-Deal, near Bucharest, will employ 150.
At present, the Dunapack Packaging division is represented by 20 corrugated cardboard packaging 10 countries.
Dunapack Packaging is part of the Prinzhorn Group of Companies, which has 7,000 employees in 15 countries.
