May 23 (SeeNews) - Czech tyre maker Mitas A.S. plans to start the construction of a new unit of its factory in Ruma, in northern Serbia, later this month, a local government official said.
The new unit will open in January 2018, Serbian daily Dnevnik quoted the head of Ruma municipal administration, Dusan Ljubisic, as saying on Monday.
The volume of the investment in the expansion project was not immediately known.
Mitas plans to hire between 100 and 200 additional employees at its Ruma factory at the beginning of next year, Ljubisic noted.
Last year, Swedish polymer products maker Trelleborg acquired the parent of Mitas, Czech diversified holding CGS Holding, for 10.9 billion Swedish crowns ($1.26 billion/1.1 billion euro) on a cash and debt-free basis.
Mitas, which currently has a total of 550 employees in Serbia, acquired the Ruma factory in 2008 and invested 3.5 million euro in its expansion in 2012.
The company also operates three factories in the Czech Republic and one in Iowa, USA.
