October 14 (SeeNews) - The gross written premiums of Croatian insurers increased 7.54% year-on-year to 8.2 billion kuna ($1.2 billion/1.1 billion euro) in the first nine months of 2019, the Croatian Insurance Bureau said.
Gross written premiums from non-life insurance rose 11.6% to 5.8 billion kuna in the period under review, whereas the life insurance segment earned premiums of 2.4 billion kuna, down 1.28% compared to the prior year's level, the insurance bureau said in a monthly report on Friday.
Croatia Osiguranje was the largest insurance company in the Adriatic country at the end of September, accounting for 27.4% of total gross written premiums. Allianz Zagreb followed with 13.2% and Euroherz Osiguranje was third with some 11.3%. Euroherc Osiguranje provides non-life insurance services only.
A total of 20 insurance companies operated in the country at the end of September.
Croatia's insurers earned gross written premiums of 9.9 billion kuna last year, up 8.83% on 2017.
