October 11 (SeeNews) - Croatia has decided to join the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP), a platform offering more than 300 million euro ($331 million) to EU member states for the development of cross-border digital public services with the highest standards of security and privacy, the government said.
The decision to sign the EBP declaration was approved at a cabinet meeting on Thursday, the government said in a statementл
Blockchain is a digital technology allowing programming and coding of data bases that are linked using cryptography, economy minister Darko Horvat said in the statement.
He added that the technology is completely transparent and immune to manipulation and corruption, as well as totally trustworthy since all blockchain data is recorded in a verifiable and permanent way.
The blockchain technology is applicable to all industrial sectors, including energy, health, industrial safety, financial services, as well as to all type of registries, Horvat said.
Croatia had been one of the last EU countries remaining outside the EBP.
The European Blockchain Partnership declaration was launched in August 2018, when it was signed by 21 EU member states and Norway.
