October 8 (SeeNews) - The public transport company of the Bulgarian city of Ruse will receive 39 million levs ($21.9 million/19.9 million euro) of EU funding under operational programme Environment 2014-2020 for the purchase of electric buses and trolleybuses, the municipal council said.
The total investment in the project, which aims to improve air quality in the Danube city, is 46.8 million levs, the municipal council said in a statement on Monday.
The project envisages the purchase of 20 electric buses and 15 trolleybuses as well as the delivery and installation of 24 charging stations. Works on the project also include the development of the necessary infrastructure and upgrade of the road network.
The successful implementation of the project will decrease the levels of fine particulate matter in the air to 0.95 tonnes per year from 1.62 tonnes per year and will improve the air quality for some 137,500 inhabitants.
All works are planned to be completed within 40 months.
