In the EU as a whole, new passenger car registrations rose by an annual 4.4% in August, bringing an end to a downward trend driven by supply chain disruptions in vehicle production. All the key EU markets positively contributed to growth, with solid gains seen in Italy, Spain, France and Germany. Still, the 650,306 units registered across the EU in August remain far below pre-pandemic levels, ACEA said.
In the first eight months of 2022, new passenger car registrations in the 27-member bloc dropped by 11.9% to 6 million, according to the dataset.
In the EU12, which comprises countries that became EU members after 2004, new passenger car registrations slipped by 1.6% to 94,694 in August. In the first eight months of 2022, EU12 registrations reached 758,215, down by 8.5% on the year.
