June 15 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 lignite-fired thermal power plant (TPP) said on Wednesday that it will begin a planned annual overhaul of its facilities on Thursday.
Part of the repair works will be carried out by contracted external service providers and will involve over 1,000 workers per day, the power producer said in an emailed statement.
ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP has accounted for about 12% of the electricity which was produced in the country from the start of 2022 up to the end of May, according to the statement. Its output, which covered the needs of over 1.4 million local households in the first five months of the year, registered a year-on-year increase of 21%.
UK power corporation ContourGlobal owns 73% of ContourGlobal Maritza East 3, with the Bulgarian state-owned National Electricity Company holding the remaining 27% stake. In May, ContourGlobal agreed to be taken private by US private equity firm KKR.
In late 2021, ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 thermal power plant struck a 6.9 million levs ($3.7 million/3.5 million euro) deal for boiler equipment maintenance with Stara Zagora-based company Metalik.
