September 19 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's current account was in surplus of 803.7 million euro ($801.3 million) at the end of July, against a surplus of 278.7 million euro in the same period of 2021, the central bank said on Monday.
The current account surplus for the first seven months of 2022 was equal to 1% of the estimated gross domestic product (GDP) for 2022, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a statement.
The surplus in January-July 2021 represented 0.4% of last year's GDP.
In July alone, Bulgaria's current account surplus shrank to 95.8 million euro from 271.3 million euro in the same month of 2021.
Imports of goods into Bulgaria in the January-July period rose 43.7% year-on-year to 29.2 billion euro, or 37% of the GDP forecast for 2022.
At a little over 27 billion euro, exports of goods from January through July recorded an annual increase of 40.8%, and were equivalent to 34.2% of the projected GDP.
