May 9 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria posted an annual drop of 8.1% of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions generated from fossil fuel combustion last year - the second highest rate of decrease among EU member states, the bloc's statistical office said.
In 2018, Bulgaria was responsible for 1.3% of all CO2 emissions generated in the EU, Eurostat said in a press release on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in Southeast Europe, Croatia's CO2 emissions fell by 4.3% - the sixth most significant decrease in the EU, as the country was responsible for 0.5% of all CO2 emissions of the EU in 2018. Slovenia posted a decrease of 0.4% and was responsible for the same percentage of the total emissions in the EU in 2018.
Romania's CO2 emissions dropped by 0.3%, with the country responsible for 2.2% of all CO2 emissions generated in the EU last year.
EU-wide, carbon dioxide emissions decreased by an annual 2.5% in 2018.
