August 28 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency said on Tuesday that it has opened a 875.3 million levs ($524.2 million/447.5 million euro) tender for the construction of a 23.6-kilometer section of Struma motorway.
The contract for building the motorway section between the towns of Kresna and Krupnik, in southwestern Bulgaria, will be partially financed by EU funds under Operational Programme Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020, the government agency said in a statement.
The project includes the construction of 7 bridges and 21 viaducts.
The tender is divided into two lots in order to allow for the completion of the project by 2023, as required by the rules of the EU operating programme.
The Struma motorway, with a total length of 173.3 km, is part of pan-European transport Corridor IV, linking Bulgaria's capital Sofia with Kulata crossing on the border with Greece. Its construction is divided into four sections, of which three are completed: Dolna Dikanya – Dupnitsa, Dupnitsa – Blagoevgrad, and Sandanski-Kulata. The fourth section, linking Blagoevgrad with Sandanski, remains to be built.
