SOFIA (Bulgaria), August 14 (SeeNews) – The European Commission said on Thursday it has opened infringement proceedings against 24 EU member states, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Slovenia, for failing to notify it about the steps they have taken to transpose an energy efficiency directive into their national legislation.
Letters of formal notice were sent to these countries on July 22, Marlene Holzner, the European Commission's spokesperson for energy policy, told SeeNews in an email, adding that the countries have two months to get back to the Commission.
Also on Wednesday, the Bulgarian energy ministry said the directive cannot be transposed into the country's legislation before a new parliament is constituted.
On August 6, Bulgarian president Rosen Plevneliev dissolved the country's parliament and appointed a caretaker government. He also decreed October 5 as the date for early parliamentary elections.
