October 5 (SeeNews) - Passenger numbers at Bosnia's Sarajevo International Airport surged to 1.1 million in the January-September period, compared with 550,483 passengers served in the like period a year earlier, data by the airport operator showed on Wednesday.
In September alone, the airport in the Bosnian capital served 143,824 passengers, compared with 99,950 in the same month of 2021, according to figures posted on the website of Sarajevo Airport.
Aircraft take-offs and landings at Sarajevo airport totalled 1,568 in September, up from 1,276 in same month of 2021. In the first nine months of 2022, airport operations surged to 12,479 from 8,350 in the January-September period of 2021.
Sarajevo international airport served 767,134 passengers in 2021, up 207% year-on-year, as total operations rose to 11,467 from 5,896 in 2020.
In 2020, border crossing at Bosnia's airports was halted from April 1 to May 1 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has three other international airports, located in Banja Luka, Tuzla and Mostar.
