May 22 (SeeNews) - Bosnia's north-eastern municipality of Bijeljina has completed a 41 million euro ($45.8 million) wastewater system construction project supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), local media reported.
The city invested 11.7 million euro in the project, the EBRD extended a 12 million euro loan and the remainder came from donations, Bijeljina mayor Mico Micic told a news conference on Tuesday, as quoted by news agency Srna.
Through the project 40,000 households in Bijeljina are connected to the wastewater system, Micic said. A total of 170 kilometres of pipes and 20 kilometres of rain sewage were built and 25 km of 40-year old asbestos pipes were replaced.
