September 27 (SeeNews) - The Belgrade city government signed a 2.8 billion dinars ($26 million/23.8 million euro) agreement for the delivery of an adaptive traffic control system (ATCS) with German conglomerate Siemens, deputy mayor Vesic said.
"From 2021, there will be 322 intersections where software based on traffic density measurements, through satellites and cameras, will determine patterns at traffic lights," Vesic said in a statement by the Belgrade city government on Thursday.
The solution is part of the "smart city" project, which the city of Belgrade is rapidly preparing with the Chinese company Hueway, Vesic said.
With the implementation of this system, traffic congestion will be reduced by about 15%, he added.
In April, Serbia signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei for the development of a smart city strategy through the positioning of Huawei as a strategic partner to cities like Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad and others.
