February 21 (SeeNews) - Albania's inactive airport of Kukes will resume operations in March as an unnamed French airline will launch flights from the northeastern city, local media reported, quoting its mayor Alber Halilaj
The flight schedule will involve services to Germany and UK’s London, which is one of the main destinations for the airport, Halilaj told public broadcaster RTSH on Tuesday, as seen in a Youtube video.
The airport was closed last year following the withdrawal of Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air just a year after starting operations there. This left the airport with only a few flights operated by Turkish-Albanian company Air Albania, which subsequently also suspended operations.
Kukes International Airport Zayed was built with the financial investment of United Arab Emirates' company Emaar Properties and operated its first flight in April 2021. It was established with the aim to become an alternative terminal to the country’s main airport in Tirana, operating mainly low-cost flights.
