TIRANA (Albania), February 8 (SeeNews) – The cumulative net profit of Albania's banking sector decreased to 18.4 billion leks ($167.3 million/147.4 million euro) in 2018, from 20.1 billion leks a year earlier, according to data published by the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) on Friday.
The Albanian banking sector's outstanding loan portfolio also shrank, to 580.7 billion leks from 600.9 billion leks at the end of December 2017, AAB said in a monthly report, citing data of the country's central bank.
The ratio of problem loans to total loans dropped to 11.1% from 13.2% at the end of 2017.
Deposits in Albanian banks increased to 1,180 billion leks at the end of December from 1,166 billion leks a year earlier.
The total assets in Albania’s banking system grew to 1,453 billion leks in 2018 from 1,445 billion leks a year earlier.
Return on assets (ROA) decreased to 1.2 billion leks, from 1.5 billion leks. Return on equity also declined, to 13.0 billion leks from 15.7 billion leks.
The figures comprise the financial results of 14 Albanian banks, as compared to 16 in 2017. The largest by assets among them are Banka Kombetare Tregtare (BKT) and Raiffeisen Bank Albania.
