March 20 (SeeNews) - Flag carrier Air Serbia has suspended passenger services due to the measures imposed by the Serbian government in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus disease, it said.

"Due to the situation resulting from the coronavirus pandemic and the temporary suspension of all commercial international traffic, Air Serbia will temporarily halt passenger transport as of today (Thursday, 19 March 2020)," the flag carrier said in a statement on Thursday.

According to media reports, Air Serbia will operate a charter flight from Belgrade to China's Guangzhou via Shanghai to transport medical supplies and medical personnel from the Asian country. Another charter service to China is planned for Monday.

On Thursday, the Serbian government suspended all international passenger flights at the Nikola Tesla airport in Belgrade and closed the Konstantin Veliki airport in Nis in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country.

Serbia has confirmed 118 cases of the coronavirus infection so far. The country closed its borders on March 15, shortly after it declared a state of emergency.
