Industry Overview
According to data from the Croatian National Institute of Statistics, the number of registered construction companies at end-2007 stood at 17,616, compared to a total 252,645 companies in Croatia. The active companies in the construction sector numbered 10,806, of which the privately-owned totalled 10,450, state-owned were 94 and the cooperatives were 135.
In 2007 the value of construction works totalled HRK 19.663 bln, of which HRK 8.113 bln for civil engineering projects and HRK 5.826 bln for building constructions.
The value of construction works in the country for the third quarter of 2007 amounted to HRK 4.903 bln, while in the second quarter construction works stood at HRK 5.214 bln.
In the third quarter of 2007 the construction sector contributed HRK 4.241 bln or 5.6% to the country's GDP. The greatest share in the GDP was held by the mining and manufacturing sector which totalled HRK 15.423 bln, followed by the public administration sector – with HRK 11.217 bln and the financial intermediation and real estate sector – with HRK 10.957 bln. The total GDP for the period amounted to HRK 75.494 bln.
According to data from the Croatian National Institute of Statistics, the number of  the registered construction companies stood at 16,298 in March 2007. The active companies numbered 9,470. Privately-owned construction companies totalled 9,148, while the state-owned ones were  89.
The value of construction works in Croatia amounted to HRK 3.822 bln for the first quarter of 2007.
