Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is a left-wing political party in Montenegro, a successor of the former Yugoslav Communist party. At the first legislative elections in Montenegro as an independent country on September 10, 2006, DPS along with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) won 41 out of 81 seats, and the right to appoint the Government. DPS itself got 33 seats. It is considered the party most responsible for the success of the referendum on May 21, 2006 on which 55.5% of Montenegrins voted for independence.
