The Communist Party is the current ruling political party in the country. The PCRM won 55 seats in 101-seat parliament in March 2005, with 45.98% of the vote. The PCRM came to power with a clear pro-Russian policy, but since 2003 the Transdniestrian conflict has significantly cooled relations between Chisinau and Moscow. As a result, the communists changed the direction of its foreign policy, turning to the west. They have since proclaimed European integration as the country's priority.
