The number of passenger cars registered in the Republic of Serbia in 2006 increased by 2.0% in relation to the number of registered cars in the previous year, while the number of trailers increased by 8.0% The most dynamic growth, of 2.0%, was noted at motorcycles.
The number of 557862 passenger cars of domestic production, Zastava brand, was registered. Regarding the passenger cars of foreign production, in 2006, the most represented passenger cars’ brands are- Volkswagen -168918, Opel -168714, Ford - 73560, Fiat - 56965, Renault - 54681, Mercedes - 50038, Peugeot - 381141, Skoda - 37754.
The number of first time registered passenger cars in the Republic of Serbia in 2006 was by 249.2% higher if compared to the previous year - passenger cars by 63.4% and trailers by 110.2%. A big difference between first time registered and new registered passenger cars and articulated vehicles occurs because distributors of vehicles sell often new vehicles, also, which year of production is not the current one.
The new registered motor vehicles at the territory of the Republic of Serbia: 9590 Zastava passenger cars, 7394 Fiat cars, 6337 Opel cars, 5770 Volkswagen cars, 5704 Renault cars and 4025 Dacia cars.
The total number of traffic accidents in 2006 increased by 9.1% in relation to the previous year. The highest number of traffic accidents is noted in non - urban areas and it amounts to 15.4%.
The number of casualties in 2006 increased by 9.0% relative to 2005, while the number of injured in non - urban areas increased by 16.0%.
