In August 2008 the labour force increased by 0.4% due to the increase in the number of persons in employment (by 0.6%). The registered unemployment rate went down by 0.2 of a percentage point.

After a two-month period of decrease in the labour force, in September 2008 the number increased again despite the decrease in the number of registered unemployed persons, who together with persons in employment form the labour force.
Among persons in paid employment almost 91% were persons employed by legal persons, and among self-employed persons almost 55% were individual private entrepreneurs. Among the latter men were in the majority, as there were three times as many men as there were women.

The number of persons in employment increased the most in education
In September the number of persons in employment increased the most in education, by almost 2,000 persons or 3.2%. This can be attributed to the start of the school year for the students of primary and secondary schools.
