Average earning in March 2008

In March 2008, gross nominal average earning was 1623 lei, by 5.2% more than in the previous month.

Net nominal average earning was 1192 lei, increasing as against the previous month by 58 lei (5.1%).

The highest values of net nominal average earning were registered in the activities of financial intermediation (3595 lei) and the lowest ones in wood and wood and cork products processing, except furniture (674 lei).

Earning in comparison with the evolution of consumer prices

Real earning index for March 2008 as against the previous month, calculated as ratio between net nominal earning index and consumer price index, was 104.4%.
In comparison with October 1990, real earning index was 116.0%,by 4.9 percentage points more than that registered in February 2008.

During the year, earning fluctuations are registered being mainly determined by the 13th salary and holiday bonuses (December, March/April).

They influence the increases or decreases according to the period they are granted, finally leading to the diminish of monthly earning fluctuations at level of the whole year.

March 2008 as compared to February 2008

Increases in the net average earning in March 2008, as against the previous month, were mainly determined by the bonuses and incentives, salary negotiations or achievement of higher production. Equal values and over the average in the national economy were registered as follows:

- by 23,9% in financial intermediation (except insurance and pension funding);

- between 9% and 14% in the following activities: other products of nonmetallic minerals, crude oil processing, coal coking and nuclear fuel treatment, ancillary and related transport activities; travel agencies activities and pulp, paper and paper products;

- between 5% and 9% in the following activities: production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas and water, food and beverages, hotels and restaurants, rubber and plastic products, electric machinery and appliances, construction, land transport; transport via pipelines, medical, precision, optical and photo apparatus and instruments, watches and clocks, chemical substances and products, publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media and wholesale and retail.

Decreases of net nominal average earning were registered in the following activities: tobacco products, computers and office machinery and air transport and were determined by the bonuses in the previous month and the achievement of a lower production in the current month.

March 2008 as compared to March 2007

In comparison with March 2007, net nominal average earning increased by 17.7%.

Real earning index as against the same period of the previous year registered a growth of 8.3%.
