Macedonian Government has been considering giving Macedonian construction companies an advantage over foreign companies in public calls for tenders, Macedonian media say. Deputy PM Vladimir Pesevski says that teams from the Ministry of Justice and the Secretariat for European Affairs have been working on determining whether such practice would go against European directives.
Initial analyses showed that it may be acceptable in some construction industry deals to allow such advantage for Macedonian companies if they offer the same conditions as a foreign company. However, the final decision has not been made yet. Despite the Government’s expectations that the construction industry would have positive performance, Macedonian construction companies claim they have been loosing the battle in the foreign markets.
