Aer Lingus will operate twice weekly services from Dublin to the Black Sea city of Burgas, which is a gateway to Bulgarian coastal resorts, the company said in a statement.
The company is still considering whether to keep operating the Dublin-Burgas destination after October 4, the head of press and media relations for Aer Lingus Gillian Culhane told SeeNews by telephone from Dublin.
“That route will remain under review […] It will depend on the performance,” Culhane said.
Set up in 1936, Air Lingus flies to and from nearly 70 destinations across Europe, the U.S. and the Middle East.
In southeast Europe, the company flies to Bucharest in Romania and Dubrovnik in Croatia.
Aer Lingus carried 706,000 passengers in January 2008, up 10.8% year-on-year. In 2007 the company carried 9.3 million passengers, 7.4% more than in the previous year.
