The data published in this release are obtained on the basis of the Monthly report of retail trade (TRG-1).
The survey has been carried out since January 2006, and observation units are enterprises whose main activity is retail trade, as well as enterprises whose main activity is not retail trade, but registred retail trade units are part of them.
The entrepreneuers are not covered in this survey.

The Monthly survey of retail trade has been carried out by sample method. The sampling framework for choosing enterprise was done on the basis of financial reports of enterprises and data from regular statistical retail survey.
All large and medium-sized enterprises are covered by the sample, and small enterprises are chosen by the random sample.

In this survey turnover is considered value total retail trade turnover, in activities from division 50 and 52 including value added tax (VAT).
Subclasses 50200 and 50404, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles are excluded from division 50 and 52, as well as group 527 – Repair of personal and household goods.

Turnover in retail trade in September 2008 compared to the August of the same year is 12.6% lower.
