(ADP news) - Nov 11, 2008 - Bulgaria’s first open-air mall will pop up in the Black Sea city of Burgas by 2010.

The Strand, which was developed by UK architectural studio GMW, will allow mall walkers to stride in green areas. It will host more than 50 renowned retail chains.

The shopping centre will deliver 30,000 sq m of retail space, more than 8,000 sq m of walking areas and a 26,000 sq m single-level parking lot.

The European development agency King Sturge was hired to let out retail areas in the mall and it will soon open its Sofia office. Potential tenants of The Strand are several big international chains.

Open-air malls have lower construction and maintenance costs than traditional indoor retail centres.
