BANJA LUKA (Bosnia and Herzegovina), November 10 (SeeNews) – Bosnia’s second largest power utility, Elektroprivreda RS, plans an electricity surplus of some 1,292 gigawatt-hours (GWh) next year although consumption is expected to rise by 2.8% while generation is to remain unchanged compared to the 2008 plan, a Bosnian daily reported on Monday.
No data were available about the expected surplus for this year.
The planned electricity output for 2009 is 5,288 GWh, while the expected consumption is 3,391 GWh, daily newspaper Nezavisne Novine quoted Elektroprivreda RS’s director for production, Ilija Tamindzija, as saying.
He said the company plans distribution losses of 14% for next year.
Elektroprivreda RS expects output in its thermal power plants to increase by 3.0% in 2009, while hydropower generation would fall due to smaller planned production in the Visegrad plant in eastern Bosnia.
Elektroprivreda RS is the power utility holding of the Serb Republic, which together with the Muslim-Croat Federation makes up Bosnia.
It comprises two coal mine and power plant complexes, Ugljevik and Gacko, and three hydropower plant groups along the rivers Drina, Trebisnjica and Vrbas.
It said earlier it has turned to a 2008 first-half profit of 34 million marka ($22.2 million/17.4 million euro) from a 35 million marka loss a year ago thanks to a surge in output and exports.
Bosnia has two other power utilities, the largest one, Elektroprivreda BiH, and the smallest, Elektroprivreda HZ HB, both operating in the Federation.
