April 22 (SeeNews) - Croatia’s consolidated general government deficit amounted to 528 million euro ($562 million), or 0.7% of the gross domestic product (GDP), in 2023, compared with a surplus of 88 million euro, or 0.1% of GDP, in 2022, the statistical office said on Monday.
The consolidated debt at the end of 2023 amounted to 48.191 billion euro, or 63% of GDP, while in 2022 it amounted to 46.346 billion euro, or 67.8% of GDP, the statistical office said in the April 2024 notification on the excessive deficit procedure (EDP) report.
Compared to the October Notification, the figures for government deficit and surplus in the previous three years have been revised mainly due to updating of data sources, revising the recording of property income and other methodological changes. The revision showed that in 2022 the surplus was 12.7 million euro higher, while in 2021 the deficit was 25.5 million euro higher and in 2020 the deficit was 1.2 million euro lower.
This EDP report is submitted to the European Commission (Eurostat) twice a year – at the end of March (the so-called April Notification) and the end of September (the October Notification).
The EDP report covers the previous four-year period, as well as the current year, with the data for the current year relying on forecasts provided by the ministry of finance.
