April 30 (SeeNews) - Romanian construction company Consitrans has been awarded a 81.2 million lei ($17.5 million/16.3 million euro) contract to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a highway connecting the cities of Brasov and Bacau, the head of Romania's road infrastructure company CNAIR, Cristian Pistol, said on Tuesday.
After signing the contract for the assignment, Consitrans will have 24 months to complete the feasibility study, Pistol said in a social media post.
The motorway will run from the central city of Brasov to the northeastern city of Bacau, providing a new connection between Romania's geographical regions of Transilvania and Moldova, and will have an estimated length of 164 km.
The contract will be financed through the 2021-2027 Transport Programme, local media outlet Economica.net reported.
Romania's 2021-2027 Transport Programme is a strategic initiative designed to modernise the country's transportation infrastructure. With a total value of 9.6 billion euro, the programme receives 4.6 billion euro in funding from the European Union.
