Albania hired Austrian construction company Alpine Mayreder to build a 6.9 million euro ($9.4 million) key road junction. The company will construct at the entrance to the capital Tirana a grade-separated junction between the road to Durres, the country's largest port city, located in the west, and the road to the nearby town of Kamza.
Alpine will start the construction works in June and is due to complete them within 10 months, the ministry's spokeswoman Erla Mehilli told SeeNews.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) lent 6.4 million euro for the project, while the remainder is provided by the Albanian Government.
The construction of the junction is part of a bigger project aimed at the repair and the upgrade of the highways leading to the capital Tirana, including also a 1.8 million euro bridge construction, in Kamza, and a 2.5 million euro road linking the Kamza bridge and the nearby Tapize bridge.
