April 26 (SeeNews) - Serbian power utility EPS said it has put into trial operation the new 215 million euro ($230 million) desulphurisation facilities at four of the six units of its Nikola Tesla A thermal power plant (TPP).
The same project is ongoing at TPP Nikola Tesla B and with its completion at the end of next year, EPS will be able to resolve its greenhouse gas emissions issues, the head of EPS, Dusan Zivkovic, said in a company statement on Thursday.
Energy minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic was quoted as saying in the same statement that the sulphur dioxide gas emissions will drop 30 times thanks to the operations of the new facilities at TPP Nikola Tesla A.
The project was implemented by Japan's Mitsubishi Power, with the financial support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The 1,766 MW Nikola Tesla A and the 1,300 MW Nikola Tesla B are part of Termoelektrane Nikola Tesla (TENT) power generation complex, which also includes the TPP Morava and TPP Kolubara power plants.
