January 23 (SeeNews) - The telecommunications operators in Montenegro are expected to invest 44 million euro ($48 million) this year in the further development of their 4G and 5G networks, local media reported on Tuesday.
In the past 10 years, the telecoms active in Montenegro invested 650 million euro in their networks, local daily Pobjeda quoted officials at the country's telecommunications regulator, EKIP, as saying.
There are no precise data yet on the amount invested in the sector in 2023, the EKIP oficialls noted, adding that the companies' investment plans for last year totalled 65 million euro.
EKIP also said that mobile phone subscribers in Montenegro totalled 1,449,477 at the end of 2023, while fixed-line users numbered 190,367.
Montenegro, with a population of around 680,000, has mobile services provided by three operators - M:tel (part of Telekom Srbija group), Crnogorski Telekom (controlled by Croatia's Hrvatski Telekom), and One Crna Gora (part of Hungary's 4iG).
Latest available data on EKIP's website show that as of end-October 2023 M:tel held a 38% share of the country's mobile market, followed by Crnogorski Telekom with 35% and One with 27%.
