April 29 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign visitors to Bulgaria rose by 7.2% on the year in March, reaching 756,510, of which 33.3% were transit trips, the statistical office said on Monday.
Visitors from fellow EU member states represented 49.7% of all visits by foreign nationals in March, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report. Romania was Bulgaria's biggest EU feeder market, accounting for 37.4% of all EU visitors, followed by Greece with 30.8%.
Visits to Bulgaria from other European countries amounted to 310,415 last month, of which Turkey made up 48.6%.
Overall, Turkey was the source of the highest number of visitors in the review month, or 150,868, followed by Romania, Greece, Ukraine, Serbia and Germany.
In March, holiday trips and business visits accounted for 35.5% and 14.1% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively, with increases recorded in all categories of visits monitored.
