March 13 (SeeNews) - The government of Albania will implement a new address assigning system involving the introduction of unique numeral codes for every home, institution or business entity, interior minister Taulant Balla said on Wednesday.
Recently-approved amendments in the address system regulation aim to resolve persistent address discrepancies impacting the postal service and also the touristic experience in the country, Balla said in a social media video.
In principle, the Albanian address system follows a hierarchical structure, including the locality (city or village), area, street, building number, entrance number, and apartment number. These are identified through both letters and numbers. But in practice, different government entities currently use different sorting systems, making coding confusing for inhabitants.
Part of the government’s new plan is the unification of all the addresses into one common database for all the institutions.
